Bulldog Staffordshire Terrier – The Bull Is Not So Bully After All!

Bulldog Staffordshire Terrier - The Bull Is Not So Bully After All!

nds!

They have a tendency to suffering heat-strokes, cataract problems as well as breathlessness besides being aggressive towards other animals, though they are extremely friendly towards small children.

For the upkeep and general care of your bulldog Staffordshire Terrier, it is important that potential or new owners realize that bathing is not necessarily a daily ritual; your dog can be bathed, when necessary as otherwise the regular brushing of his coat with a good quality brush is more than sufficient for good grooming. Besides this, basic grooming and care of your Staffordshire Terrier includes giving him a good rub-down with a towel so any loose hair comes off, taking them out for regular physical activity such as walk or run while on a leash, especially when visiting public places.

The history of the Staffordshire bull terrier is an interesting and varied one that has developed down the ages, much as the dog also called a Staffie, has! First discovered in the 17th century, this breed became a popular choice for bull baiting due to its fighting quality and strength more punishing than the Bulldog. It was cross-bred with the terrier and emerged as the Pit Dog/Bull/Terrier and grew to be recognized for its tenacity, aggressiveness and courage that made it the favorite of miners and steel-workers alike!

Get yourself one – to know what the Staffies are all about; you won’t regret it!

I love 'em, wouldn't own another breed, BUT

You have some SERIOUS research to do.

APBTS WERE bred to fight dogs, that was one of their ORIGINAL intentions. To deny this is to do the breed a SERIOUS disservice!

They ARE animal aggression, but with proper socialization, they can learn to overcome such hurdles.

They ARE stubborn, strong willed, and difficult to own. They require firm hands, and a dominant owner.

To say anything but about these dogs is only going to FURTHER the damnation these dogs are already suffering.

I NEVER EVER tell people these are the best dogs in the world, because personally, I don't think everyone can handle this type of dog. They AREN'T the best dogs in the world for everyone, and until people like you, and many others stop saying "Great dogs, recommend them for EVERYONE!" then this breed has NO future.

There needs to be a serious 180 on the thoughts about this breed, or I fear that BSL WILL work.

    I cannot reiterate enough…

THESE ARE NOT THE DOG FOR EVERYONE, in fact, I know very FEW people who COULD handle these dogs properly, and as such, produce a well rounded, well behaved, bully.

Being in the UK my experience with pit bulls and Am staffs is limited (save the few "illegals") but I have met a number of other bullies (never owned one personally).

I have never met a Staffordshire I didn't like – they have all been lovely, affectionate, usually downright soppy dogs and good fun. I think staffies have one of the best temperaments of any breed. I'm not keen on their appearence though – its not that I dislike the way the look as such, they just don't do it for me like some other breeds.

American bulldogs are fantastic – all the ones I've met have been lovely. I prefer them to staffies, probably because I have a thing for big dogs.

I've only met a few English bulldogs and bull terriers, but again they've all been nice. Not keen on the way the bulldog has been crippled for the sake of its appearance though – I prefer the "victorian bulldog" as it can actually run and breathe properly.

    Personally I like rottweilers best!

What Greek said is absolutely true. Tosa Inu were also bred specifically for fighting but they cost thousands of dollars therefore are kept out of the hands of morons. "Pitbulls" can be found in any local paper for 200 bucks (sometimes less). The only "Pitbulls" that are expensive aren't the well bred dogs, they're the supersized Mastiff mutts! Not even good breeders can save the American Pitbull Terrier because the damage has been done and these dogs called "pitbulls" are already in the hands of morons and will remain there most likely forever (or until they lose popularity which would be lovely!). Lovers of the Pitbull as a breed should if capable and willing, go back to breeding quality dogs and insuring they go to good homes.

I love all dogs, but bullies are my preference. I breed Alapaha Blueblood Bulldogs, they are the best breed I have ever known. English Bulldogs are sooooo cute, how can anyone not like them???

welcome to the world of breed banning which is growing by numbers. The responsible owners of certain banned and soon to be banned breeds are paying the price for the irresponsible owners that do not get proper training for their dog and do not educate themselves about a breed before buying or adopting. People need to take the time and read up about the breed they are interested in and take the time overall to devote to raising them right and treating them right. and socializing them properly. They are in some ways dependent like children and need to learn their position.

Small dogs can be down right nasty. As a vet tech I have seen them. You don't hear about small breeds biting anyone because there is no story there, no drama to report no attention to give. But if it is a Pit of any sort, Rottie, Shepard, Akita etc you sure will hear about it. No one wants to come to terms with Fluffy the chihuahua or Daisy the maltese can have a tendency to be nasty.

I think you are refering to what is commonly called the American Bully or Gotti line APBT. (the horribly over muscled bully type dogs) No one knows for sure what the mix is. The breeders of these "lines" claim they are purebred APBT or that they are a cross of APBT and AmStaff which under UKC would still be APBT as AKC AmStaff can be dual registered with the UKC as APBT. My suspicion would be they are crossed with any number of the heavily muscled breeds such as Bulldogs, Bull Mastiffs, Neo Mastiff etc. As no breeding of even a halfway decent APBT and/or AmStaff would produce a dog that looks like the Bully. So basically they are as you already know a mutt whose "breeder" has falsified registration papers to allow them to be registered as purebred

You are correct that oftentimes that alot of dogs are incorrectly identified as pit bulls. Sometimes the victim or a witness made the identification, other times media outlets are responsible. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing exactly how often this happens.

A number of breeds like the Cane Corso, Presa Canario, and Dogo Argentino are often confused as pit bulls. These breeds are all somewhat related, but there are serious differences.

There are a number of challenges in identifying pit bulls today. The term pit bull generally refers to American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. However, there is so much bad breeding and intentional mixing occuring, that the term "pit bull" now encompasses thousands of dogs who look nothing like these breeds. Some people are mixing pit bulls with mastiff-type dogs to increase size and guarding tendencies. Also, some people are intentionally breeding for incorrect physical charateristics, like excessively large heads.

Pit bulls face a lot of challenges today, most of which stem from their overpopulation. Pit bull owners have a responsibility to make their dogs examples to the community. This means getting dogs spayed or neutered, having regular veterinary visits, and of course regular training.

I know what A "Pit Bull" is I own True Blood American Pit Bull Terriers, not a Facsimilie, or a Mix that will create me a bigger Pitbull, all these SO CALLED "PitBulls" that are huge or big heads are mixed, an average PitBull way generlly 40 to 60 pounds, anything larger leaves a possiblity that it is not purebred,

The Word PITBULL does refer to these three breeds, and you are correct, but the term PIT and how the AMSTAFF STAFFIE and the APBT obtain this, was from these were orginaly fought NOT IN THE USA they were actually put into PITS not cages or rooms, or pins, kennels but a large circle dug about 3 feet into the ground wich is called a PIT, this is where the term PIT got added to the BULL

Any one who thinks they know what a American Pit Bull Terrier looks like, just take the test, see if you are knowledgeable about these dogs

peope who are not are the cause the Pitbull group amstaffs apbt and staffies are being blamed for a majority of attacks it did not commit,

Also I was reading questions about APBT and the AKC and was noticeing how many people said AKC dont recognize APBT but UKC will, this is somewhat factual becuase AKC did not recognize there dogs as purebred, I have AKC papers where my APBT is registered with the AKC,

There is alot of people who think they own a true pitbull, and have so much knowledge about them, I have raised and bred, Purebreed American Pitbull Terrier since I was Eight, I am very knowledgeable about these dogs, and never did i mix them,

I have just obtained ownership by rescue of a presa canario/cane corso mix about 6 months old, i knew off the bat it was not a SO CALLED PitBull, just to make sure that i was correct and backedup my knowledge about these dogs i had Blood test run and a Canine Specialist see what the breed was and i was correct, I have walked this dog many of times, and all i hear is thats a badass pit, oh hes got a pit, man thats and awsome pit when are you going to breed him, i have a pit female, i want to use your pit as a stud, i am like man you are so stupid you know nothing about pits, this is why people like you give the purebreds a bad rap, they dont believe that he is not PITBULL until i show them the test results

SO YES I AGREE WITH YOU THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO THINK THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PITBULL AND WHAT IT REFERS TO, BUT THEY KNOW NOTHING.

THE PIT BULL TEST CAN BE FOUND HERE JUST GIVE IT A SHOT SEE HOW WELL YOU KNOW A PITBULL OR I SHOULD SAY AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER, AMERICAN STRAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER AND THE STRAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER GOOD LUCK

OK i have read about these socalled blue noses everyone is talking about, there a mix breed pit, these dogs mix started with a Ca da Bou and the alaphaha blue blood bulldog along yes along with the Purbred AMSTAFF to complete a more larger SO call blue nose pitbull, head size wich a phsycial disrupt is from the most common bull mastiff and also the size and weight,

and all this talk about blues noses are moody bi polar and can turn on its owner with cause and that rednoses are they way to go, is straight up bullshit, any dog has it time fuse of how much it takes to rage, some are more temperamental than others,

Also the Terrier groups named here have also been used as A hog dog, becuase they will ban together to take down hogs, wich i believe to be way better than fighting them, this is very common in East Texas where most of the country lyes
