The American Pit Bull Terrier has become a monster in the eyes of the legal system and a whole lot of families with children. In the last few years, Pit Bull attacks on children and adults have escalated out of control. Laws are being made and existing ones changed because of these vicious and sometimes deadly attacks. Irresponsible owners are paying fines and being jailed for improper restraint of their pets, that result in these attacks.

Each year, more and more new dog breeds are added to the already growing list. Currently, the American Kennel Club, or AKC, recognizes over 150 different breeds and has seven different groups to categorize them. These groups include; sporting, working, toy, terrier, hound, herding, and non-sporting breeds.

American Staffordshire Terrier Dog Breed Interesting Facts

In the days when pit fighting was an accepted “sport” in the country of Great Britain and later in America, Pitbulls of various origins were the dogs of choice for this activity.

To a large extent, the original “bulldog” was one of the foundation breeds of dogs of this type. One of the functions of the of the “bulldog” was to hang onto the bull, to worry the bull and not let go once the dog bit.
